You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone.

About

For more than 25 years, I worked inside the construction and interior design industry, where I saw firsthand how easily decisions made during a build or remodel can affect the health of the people who live there.
But this work became deeply personal when I watched my mom and my sister, Janie, experience serious health challenges—and lost them both within four months of each other.
That changed the way I looked at homes forever.
I created Detox Dwellings to give health-conscious homeowners something most construction projects are missing: a clear, personalized roadmap for making healthier decisions before those choices are sealed behind walls, installed in cabinets, or circulating through the air your family breathes every day.
Today, I work alongside homeowners, builders, and contractors as a Healthy Home Consultant, helping families navigate materials, finishes, indoor air quality, and other important decisions so they can build or remodel with greater clarity, confidence, and intention.
Because a beautiful home shouldn’t just look good.
It should support the people living in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I book?
After you reserve your session, you'll receive a brief, gentle intake form so I can understand your project — new construction, a remodel, or a home you're already living in — along with your health priorities. Depending on what you've booked, we'll walk through your space, your blueprints, or both, and outline clear next steps. You'll leave with a focused plan instead of a running list of worries.
Do I need to use the most expensive, all-organic materials throughout my new home?
No. My approach is rooted in compassion and practicality. During a build or remodel, we focus on right-sized, realistic choices that fit your budget and prioritize where they'll matter most — your primary bedroom, kitchen, or nursery, for example — rather than assuming every material needs to be the premium option. Often, a few well-chosen decisions in flooring, paint, or insulation have far more impact than upgrading everything across the board.
Will you work with my builder, contractor, or architect?
Yes — that's part of the process, not an extra ask. For the Action Plan, I include a direct touchpoint with your contractor or architect to make sure material recommendations align with what's already been specified, so nothing gets lost in translation between us. I'm not here to compete with your team or slow down your project — I'm here to make sure the health side of your decisions gets a seat at the table alongside the budget and timeline side.
Is this the same as interior design?
No. Interior design focuses primarily on aesthetics. While we absolutely care about how your home looks and feels, my work is grounded in building biology and the science of how your environment influences your body and nervous system. We look at materials, air, light, and patterns of use—not just colors and furniture.
How do I know what's truly healthy?
It's understandable to feel confused. VOC levels alone are not a reliable indicator of whether a product is truly supportive for long-term health — VOCs are regulated because of their role in outdoor smog, not because of how they affect the human body indoors. A product can be labeled zero-VOC and still contain ingredients that aren't accounted for in that label. Instead, we look at ingredient transparency, third-party certifications, and how materials perform over time. I'll help you interpret labels, marketing language, and certifications so your choices are grounded in clarity — not fear.
Do I need to already have blueprints or a design-build firm in place before working with you?
Not necessarily — many clients start the Action Plan early, before a contractor is even chosen. Blueprints or an itemized scope of work help me build a more detailed materials list, but they're not required to get started. If your contractor already quoted the project, they may need to re-quote specific line items after we make changes — usually a small update, not a full restart. The earlier I'm brought in, ideally before that first quote, the more we can build healthy choices in from the start.
